Scripture reading: Hebrew 6:9-11
Christian Devotions Memory Verse
“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19)
Beloved, you might be fully aware that our God can do all things. In Luke 1:37 the scripture says “for with God nothing shall be impossible”. Job 5:9 also reveals that what our God can do is great, marvellous, and innumerable. However, there are a few things God cannot do. Not because he does not have the power to do them but because they are contrary to him and his attributes as God. So what are the things that God cannot do?
First, God cannot lie (Hebrew 6:18, Numbers 23:19): One attribute that differentiate God from all other gods is ‘truthfulness’. Our God is not just a God of truth; he is an embodiment of truth. Lying is contrary to him and his nature. He cannot lie and he will never lie. The implication of this to us as Christians is that whatever God has promised, he will surely accomplish. If he has given you any revelation that is yet to come to pass, don’t worry, you just wait for it. At the appointed time it will come to pass (Habakkuk 2:2-3).
Second, God cannot be unrighteous: Romans 9:14 says it is forbidden for God to be unrighteous. Our God is a righteous God (Psalm 11:7, 145:17). His works are righteous, his judgments are righteous and he is also righteous in all his ways. God is a keeper of records. He keeps record of all our doings both good and bad. As a righteous God, he will surely reward every one of us according to our works (Revelation 22:12-13, 20:13). He cannot and will not forget all our labour of love (Hebrew 6:10). Those that love doing evil should also be prepared to receive the reward of their doing.
Third, God cannot violate his word. In Psalm 138:2, the scripture reveals that God magnify his word more than all his names. God cannot violate his word because those words are forever settled in heaven (Psalm 119:89). The reason we don’t receive answers to some of our prayers is simply because we ask God to do what is contrary to his word. God will not do them because he is a God of truth. This is one of the reasons why we need to take the word of God as our guide whenever we pray so that we would not be praying amiss.
Just as I said from the beginning, what God cannot do does not constitute any limitation on his part. He wouldn’t just do those things because they are not in consonance to his will and nature. As a result, our focus as Christians should be on what God can do and not the otherwise. If you want God to do great things in your life, here is your opportunity to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Please say this short prayer of salvation and be born again today.
Prayer Point
Almighty father, I thank you because you are God that can do all things. Please let all your plans for my life be fulfilled by all means in the name of Jesus.
Blessed be the name of the Lord. Hallelujah!!
