Christian Devotions Memory Verse
For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD? (Psalm 89:6 KJV)
In our devotion last week, we examined God as incomparable in power and holiness. We continue today by looking into another attributes of God - love and mercy.
Sometime ago, a friend asked me this question “if God loves us, why does He allow children to die?” I looked at him and concluded within me that this fellow does not understand the love of God. He sees death as the worst calamity on earth. He did not know that a child who died before he’s able to differentiate between good and bad is a sure candidate of heaven. “But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:14).
Our God is incomparable in love: God loves us so much that He created us in his image (Genesis 1:27) and not in the image of a dog or pig. God loves us so much that he gave us dominion over everything that he created (Psalm 8:4-6). God loves us so much that he sends his only Son to die for our sins (John 3:16). And our Lord Jesus said in John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”. Beloved, God loves us more than we can ever imagine. The day I realised that God loves me more than I love myself was the day I started loving him. The love of God for us is so strong that nothing in heaven and on earth can separate us from him (Romans 8:38-39).
God is also incomparable in mercy (Psalm 118:1-4): The psalmist described the mercy of God as ‘enduring forever’. Beloved, it can’t be better. No wonder He still has the heart to forgive us our sins and wrongdoings no matter how great they are. We are the offender and he (God) is the offended, yet he’s the one pleading to us to repent (Isaiah 1:18). He’s the one saying we should come to him so that he can forgive us and bless us. What a wonderful God he is! His mercy is truly incomparable.
Beloved, there are two things that can separate us from the mercy and love of God. Do you know them? We ourselves and our sins (Isaiah 59:1-2). We can separate ourselves from God if we choose to through disobedience and all sort of besetting sins. But the result of separation from God is sorrow, death and everlasting destructions. That will not be our portion in Jesus name.
Whoever does not have Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour is already separated from God. But that can be rectified today if you say this short prayer of salvation and start following Jesus Christ right away. May the Lord bless you for reading through this Christian devotion in Jesus mighty name (Amen).
Devotional Prayer Point
The incomparable God of love and mercy, I commit my life into your hand, please help me to know more about you. Give me the grace to live a life of perfect holiness and teach me how to follow you correctly in Jesus name.
