The Concept of Universal God
Scripture reading: Isaiah 44:5-18
Christian Devotions Memory Verse
“Thus
shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the
earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these
heavens.” (Jeremiah 10:11 KJV)
While I was in the university some years ago I took a course in
philosophy and I was taught about the ‘Concept of Universal God’. The
proponent of the concepts says that there is an unknown universal God
who created all things but that there are many ways to access him. The
question now is; how true is the concept of universal God?
Surely there is a universal God. His name is Jehovah; He is also the Almighty; He is the most High; He changes time and seasons; He set up kings and removes kings from the throne (Daniel 2:21); He seated in heaven and rules in the affairs of men; He is the Lord of lords and King of kings; He is the creator of the heaven and the earth (Psalm 24:1). Philosophers usually believe that they are wiser than every other person but with regards to this concept they got it wrong. There is only one way to the Almighty and it is through Jesus Christ our Saviour. The scripture says
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6 KJV)
There is no other way to the Almighty father except through Jesus
Christ. Indeed, there are other lords and gods which people worship, but
the Almighty made it clear in ‘verse 6’ of our scripture reading that
He is the first and the last. He went further to say that beside him
there is no god. This implies that those other gods that people bow down
and worship are in the real sense idols; they are fake gods and they
cannot lead anyone to the Most High God.
Another way to know the true living God and his genuine prophet is
through accurate prophecy. In verse 7 of Isaiah 44, the Lord challenged
the idols of other religion; He asked them to declare future events and
let’s see if they will come to pass without any error. The Almighty God
is the beginning and the end, as a result he can speak about future
event with certainty but other gods cannot do that accurately. In the
same way, a genuine prophet of God will always declare the future with
accuracy – watch out!
Satan deliberately introduced many other religions into the world in
other to cause conflict and confusion. As a result people will not be
able to identify the truth. For the scripture says in Acts 4:12
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
It is only the name of Jesus that can save. No any other name can take
anyone to the throne of Almighty God. Therefore the concept of universal
God as taught in philosophy is faulty.
Before we conclude let’s see what God says concerning the worshippers of
other gods. In Isaiah 44:11, God declares that the companion of idols
shall be put to shame. He went further to say that they shall be
terrified.
I will like to conclude today’s Christian devotion with the following scripture:
“But the LORD is the true God, he is
the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall
tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.
Thus shall ye say unto them, The
gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall
perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.
He hath made the earth by his power,
he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the
heavens by his discretion.” (Jeremiah 10:10-12 KJV)
Questions
• If the gods that have not made the heavens and earth shall perish, what do you think will happen to their worshipers?
• Some scientist says the earth is a product of big-bang theory, do you agree?
